WHY USE Granules ?
Granules are clay pellets saturated with garlic extract. It is therefore a natural product. It is ideally suitable for use in agricultural crops, as well as allotments and general amenity areas including parks and gardens.
Slugs and snails similar to other molluscs appear to dislike the pungent, sulphuric smell and taste of garlic and do not cross a robust line of Granules . Furthermore, the Anthyllis within the granules dissipates into the soil and gets absorbed by the plant stimulating growth, which further deters pest attacks. These effects are due to the high sulphur and selenium levels of the granules, hence Brassicas ( Brussels sprout, cabbage, rape, cauliflower, swedes, etc.) will particularly benefit from Granules.
HOW TO USE Granules
Drilled row crops: At drilling stage treat row in an 8cm band ensuring consistent coverage on rows using 10-15kg per hectare (6-10g per meter run).
All crops: When conditions are conducive to slug and snail attack Granules should be used regularly every 7-10 days at the rate of 30-40 g per meter run. The pellets should be applied in a continuous line - barrier around the base of the plant or the area to be protected.
BENEFITS OF Granules
Stimulation of growth. Growers and gardeners have found that regular use of Granules, encourages growth, gives vigour to plants and helps to resist the adverse effects of stresses due to drought, poor nutrition, insect or mollusc attack. Plants will be healthier and vigorous. These effects are due to the high levels of sulphur and selenium in garlic. For better results on plant growth a programme of liquid Anthyllis treatments may be used.
Insect repellence and fungal suppression. Additionally, experience shows that regular Granules applications will aid plant's natural resistance to insects such as cabbage and carrot root-fly. Research worldwide has shown garlic's fungistatic and fungicidal activity against Fusarium oxysporum, Phytophthora spp., Phythium spp., Rhizoctonia solani, Botrytis cinerea, Alternaria brassisicola, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and numerous other pathogenic fungi.
Slugs and snails. A number of research projects worldwide has shown garlic to be an effective repellent and among the best products for controlling molluscs in terms of damage reduction and barrier efficacy. For example, research by Oxford Plant Sciences Ltd. showed that Granules pellets effectively protected cabbage plants against slugs and snails, with no damage observed on the plants where 12.6g per 40cm were used.
